Here in the South Texas' Lower Rio Grande Valley, the total number of odonates documented thus far is 95 species (28 damselfly species and 67 dragonfly species) from Cameron, Hidalgo, Starr and Willacy Counties.   Las libélulas are some of the most interesting creatures flying around.

Lots of folks are  becoming aware of what neat odonata we have down here.  The Valley Nature Center's Dragonfly Days has introduced these fun creatures to many, many people.  Join us in Weslaco for this slow-paced event, each May.

In the meantime, come on down to the Valley, enjoy the heat, bring your cameras and nets and help us grow our LRGV odonata list.

Please be sure to send your odonata photos or specimens to Dr. John C. Abbott at Odonata Central (http://www.odonatacentral.org/), absolutely the best source for all of Texas odonata information!
